Chinese company unveils new electric-car battery with 620+ miles of range — 50% more than Tesla's Model S

Owners of electric vehicles might never have to worry about how far they can go on a single charge again. Certainly in China.

The next-generation battery, which will be manufactured by the Chinese battery manufacturer CATL, will have a minimum driving range of 1,000 kilometers (620 miles).

Currently, the $169,000 Lucid Air, the first sedan from a California-based startup, is the longest-range vehicle you can purchase in the US.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, it can go 520 miles on a single charge.

Tesla's Model S sedan, with an anticipated range of 405 miles, comes in second.

An electric car with a range of at least 600 miles would represent a titanic advance in battery technology.

According to CATL, the battery has a 255 watt-hour energy density per kilogram.
