Romelu Lukaku did not enjoy a successful return to Chelsea and his failure was attributed to his strained relationship with Thomas Tuchel.
Lukaku, 29, first got on the wrong side of the German by publicly expressing his desire to return to Inter in an infamous interview.
In the same interview Lukaku also criticized Tuchel’s playing style, suggesting that it limited him to too few opportunities in front of goal.
But Tuchel also irritated Lukaku with a joke that mocked the striker’s relationship with his former manager Antonio Conte.
According to Gol’s Nizar Kinsella, Lukaku was left unhappy with Tuchel’s wind-up.
Kinsella reveals: “To see him talk so much about Inter” [during the Sky Italia interview] Chelsea fans were insulted. This broke their relationship.
“And behind the scenes there was another incident that wasn’t on TV or anything like that.
“Someone told me that Lukaku and Tuchel were watching a Tottenham game and Tuchel said about Antonio Conte, ‘Your daddy’.
“It was just a joke, but apparently, it didn’t go down very well with Lukaku.”
